October Bonsai Fest

October Bonsai Fest

A little Oktoberfest spirit, a little Halloween imagination, and a whole month of bonsai! Join ZealFish Studio for four Wednesdays of growing, sketching, sharing ideas, and bringing a few FrankenTrees to life.

October 7, 14, 21 & 28, 2026
2 p.m. until closing
Botanicals of Clear Lake Shores

Let’s make October a month of bonsai, creativity, and good company! Join me, J. Christopher “Bones” Turnbow, as we work on trees, sketch possibilities, and see our ideas develop throughout the month.

Bonsai gives us something new to discover every time we return to a tree. After more than 40 years, I’m still learning—and sharing questions, observations, and ideas with others is one of my favorite parts.

I’ll be working on trees and sharing what I’ve learned along the way. Stop by to watch, ask questions, share your own experience, or practice sketching with me. Let’s look at the trees together and see what ideas take shape.

Whether you’re brand new to bonsai or have been growing for years, you’re welcome here. You don’t need experience to bring a fresh perspective.

The FrankenTree Challenge

Got a little mad scientist in you? Let your imagination branch out! Twisted trunks, wild silhouettes, and unexpected character—it’s time to create your own FrankenTree.

There will be a ZealFish Studio prize! Contest details are coming soon.

Keep coming back throughout October to see how the trees—and the ideas—develop. There’ll be plenty to work on, plenty to talk about, and always something to learn from each other.
